From July 18 to August 6, A group of Buddhists priests from Japan, and others from the USA, are on a pilgrimage for peace, walking from Eugene, Oregon to Bangor, Washington, to call to memory the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945, praying that such destruction will never happen again. They reached Salem at noon Wednesday, July 18 and joined the noon vigil at Chemeketa & Liberty, walked through the Wednesday farmers' Market, and moved to other places in Salem.

They spent the night at Jason Lee United Methodist Church, where Rose Lewis is prepared a supper for the walkers. Richard Lewis was there to help interpret between Japanese and English speakers. At 7:00 p.m., they presented the purpose of their pilgrimage to all who came. The next day, they resumed their walk - to Silverton. They spent Thursday night, July 19 at the Silverton Grange Hall, where they shared a potluck meal with the Grangers and members of Silverton People for Peace. Here are some pictures from that visit.
